I (still) heart New York
The past few days I just keep finding things that remind me of New York. I was flipping through my mom’s blog and found her album of photos from our trip to NYC for my commencement ceremony, with photos of Derek and me up on top of Rockefeller Center, with the Empire State Building in the background. Then tonight I happened upon an entry one of my best friends, Emily, had written about the things she missed about New York when she was visiting in California, and vice-versa, and it got me thinking about what I miss about New York… and the things that I could never give up from Los Angeles.
Things I miss from New York:
- The Metro-North railroad and NYC subways
- Fall leaves
- Thunderstorms
- Sun Xing Garden, my favorite Chinese restaurant in the whole world
- PPP Mall
- “Yonkers, bitch.”
- Taking the #1 subway down to 96th and Broadway to get my hair done. (And, therefore, our stylist, Eagle, when he was still at Extreme NYC.)
- The Bronxville Starbucks
- Green, everywhere. Even on the rocks.
- And, to quote Emily: “Friends, of course.”
Things I could never give up from LA:
- Coffee Bean (& Tea Leaf) and Bad Ass Coffee.
- Driving to Malibu to go to the beach.
- Warm, sunny days in the middle of January.
- Avocado… on everything.
- Little Tokyo and Sawtelle Blvd’s “Little Osaka.”
- Walking to work on the shady side of the street and still sweating a little.
- Seeing mountains in the distance every way I look.
- And “Friends, of course.”
This entry is lovingly dedicated to Emily, Kimmie & Lili. I miss them the most. They’d be the only reasons I’d be able to part with my LA.
You should tell me where Sun Xing Garden. I’ve been craving some good Chinese food for a while now. And you’re not missing much with the leaves. I feel like every year the whole leave changing cycle gets shorter and shorter.
We had a thunderstorm tonight!
I think the fall leaves here are one of the reasons I love Indiana. It’s so weird being back home where all we have is summer and a slightly less hot month or so. I’ll mail you some leaves!
Thx for the pingback :P
I miss you too. A lot of the things on the NYC list are “us” things! Good times.
I’m not surprised you miss NY. I loved it when I went on holiday there and that was only five days. What I loved the most was just sitting in the window and listening to the sounds of the city. Its fantastic.
